Imogen Thorne arrives for a winter of ice research and finds the rental comes with a caretaker, his late wife's old dog, and a channel she never saw filling.
A northeast gale drops a tree through Anders's roof, and the only warm room left at Heron Head has one bed in it.
Anders finally shows Imogen the old logs and the dark old lens at the top of the tower, and answers the kiss she has been waiting on.
Imogen goes out across the ice at low water for her camera card, the tide comes in behind her, and Anders takes the old dory out to bring her home.
Her ex husband calls from Victoria with the job Imogen wanted most, and the man beside her does not ask her to stay.
The village posts notice of a sale, and Anders opens the tin of his late wife's letters for the first time in four years.
The council votes on the keeper's house, Anders says nothing at all, and Imogen gives Victoria her answer.
The ice is gone, her truck is packed, and the log Anders hands her at the back door says everything he never could.
The village decides what the station is for, Anders stands up to speak, and the old lens is lit for the first time since nineteen eighty six.
